Facebook Pages Spam

Donald Rush : February 11th, 2011

Facebook pages has gone through some changes over its short life. At one time they where called fan pages. Now instead of becoming a fan, you like a page. Up until now the conversation was limited for a page admin. They could only comunicate with other users on their page. This was a bit of a handicap compared to the freedom of a standard user. A standard user can comment on their friends walls as well as page walls. They can interact without waiting for the conversation to come to them.

With the recent changes to the facebook pages. The page admin can now log in as the page and comment on pages that like their page or pages that the page has liked. This is will be a great improvement in the ability of a page to join the online conversation. However it could lead to a spammier facebook. However because you can drop pages like you drop friends, if they begin to misbehave you can put them in their place.

The layout has changed somewhat also. This will make it interesting for the custom page layouts already on facebook. Who knows how much these pages will need to be changed. With a ever evolving Facebook, one thing  is sure. Facebook guru’s will be busy keeping up.

Facebook like button on Everything

Donald : June 7th, 2010

So today I needed to order more business cards and decided to put my businesses facebook page address on the cards. www.facebook.com/smallbuck . Next to that I thought it would be neat to add the like button that is now the web standard for facebook and any other page that a person likes.

So the easy thing to do would be to pull the image of the web and put it on my card . Right? No not right. Since I have some experience in print design I know that the best thing to do would be to find a vector or high resolution graphic that would have better print quality. So I set out looking. Surfing the web for said image. To my surprise the world wide web left me empty handed. Not to worry I am a designer I will just recreate the image in vector to use on my cards. So since I took the time to create it. I am sharing it with you should you need it.

Here is what I found online as a reference.

+ + = the vector image

Or larger to show detail

Here is the actual vector facebook like button to download

This is not an official facebook graphic. Only something I created.

Please leave a comment if you have found the image helpful a link to the post would be even better.

Facebook & Your Small Business Website

Donald : June 4th, 2010

So I was talking with ,local social media expert, Jason Elkins today. And we both agree that facebook is worth your attention. There is such a huge user group that to ignore it would be ignoring a huge segment of anyones market. Facebook is growing and the businesses that take advantage of it will be the ones to get the early equity. We know facebook isn’t new to you, but the number of small businesses that are using facebook versus the ones that should be is disappointing. Blogging has been said to be the best thing you can do for your small business website. I would say the same will be said about facebook for your small businesses reputation.

Facebook is word of mouth on steroids. If you follow the old motto ” I get my business from word of mouth” the you need to be on facebook. The amount of people that you can connect with versus the time you have to spend to make those connections is worth every productive second. Most of us would spend one lunch break a week to tell a client or potential client about our business in hopes that they would share or tell someone else. If we spent that time on facebook once per week we would see huge benefits.

So here is the challenge. Pick one day this week and for 4 weeks spend your lunch at your desk on facebook. Ask customers on facebook to leave reviews on your fan page. Ask existing customers to like your page. Add a link to your website or a coupon. Share something interesting that isn’t a sales pitch. Try it. See if you get more fans. Or people that like your page. Then in about a mouth send them a direct message through facebook to promote a special offer.

Advertising on Facebook

Donald : May 17th, 2010

Facebook is the giant in social networking. It is quickly becoming a communication channel that businesses can no longer afford to ignore.

So how do you get involved with facebook? Where do you start? What are the best practices? I believe that every business has to take a serious look at what they can commit to. Then once they have shown they can be consistent. Look for areas to grow in. Whether you post once per week or once per day. Give thought to how you want to manage your facebook involvement. How will you use facebook to bring your clients closer?

The conclusion that many businesses will come to is that they are not willing to invest the time or energy to focus on facebook. There are however ways to get involved with out making a time commitment. The answer maybe advertising on facebook. The reality is that there is a huge market waiting to be tapped on facebook. You can gain exposure simply by advertising on facebook.

They offer two solutions. You can pay each time someone clicks on your ad, or pay for them to show your ad a certain amount of times. Each will let you gain access to the facebook market without having to interact with a fan or profile page on a regular basis.

In upcoming posts I will show you in detail how to set up an ad on facebook.

Please leave a comment if you have a question or would like to share your experience with advertising on facebook.
